State Nomination
- State nomination allows a state government to nominate highly skilled migrants to address skills shortages in key industry areas defined by the state as vital.
- State nomination can help skilled migrants qualify for a skilled migration visa from the Australian Government Department of Home Affairs (DHA), earning them more points on their visa application.
State nomination provides two skilled migration visa options:
Talented Nominated (Permanent) Visa (Subclass 190): This permanent visa permits talented migrants to live and work wherever in the state that nominates them. A state must nominate you before the DHA may ask you to apply for a visa.
Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa (Subclass 491) - This is a state-sponsored provisional visa for skilled migrants that permits them to live and work in designated regional areas of that state for up to five years and can lead to permanent residency.
To be eligible for one of the state's nomination channels, your occupation must be listed as eligible skilled.
Every state and territory has its qualifying conditions for nomination. To be eligible for your nomination, you must satisfy the following conditions. Each state has its nomination requirements, which you must sign on a declaration form before getting your nomination. If you are nominated, you must fulfill your commitments.
Once nominated, the DHA will ask you to apply for your visa. The DHA has its own set of qualifying conditions that applicants must complete before a visa may be issued.
